I bound a set of books part of my efforts to support the department in which I taught studio art in 2016. I doubt anyone will be surprised that the traditional gift for graduating studio art majors is a sketchbook.
Their art building is undergoing major renovations this year, but I salvaged a number of wood shingles early in the demolition process. Like slivers of something sacred, these shingles (or pieces thereof) are framed and protected. The departmental logo appears in black on a dark grey background.
This project was almost literally the last thing I did before moving back to my home state. It felt somehow appropriate to leave in a flurry of studio activity.
