The Firecracker Press sold me on the sheer excellence of letterpress art.  If you’re ever in St. Louis, check them out for good design, poetry readings, edible printed tortillas, and people who know a lot about the history of typography.

Most of us can’t afford to reinforce our floors to accommodate ridiculously heavy space hogs.  Some people have ideas for DIY presses for smaller operations.

Several make presses that look a lot like book presses. The bottle jack press is a beefed-up version of the same.  I’ve seen some claims that you can do without the press entirely, but this embossing approach didn’t yield the results I wanted.
