It’s a bit silly that so little of what I’ve done in the last few years made it to my actual portfolio website.

Artistic things that happened since my last research blog post (each of which likely deserves its own post):
- knitting
I re-learned how to knit and quickly left my previous skill level in the dust. I especially love knitting socks as a productive fidget during casual video calls. I’ve also had a go at illusion knitting and lace. - dye (especially botanical)
Marigolds, cosmos, cochineal, avocado, logwood, indigo, turmeric, birch leaves, walnut shells, and a few other materials have dyed my fabric or (mostly) yarn. - spinning
After some false starts, I am nearly consistent enough to produce handspun yarn for my socks. - crochet and tatting
These are particularly useful techniques to combine when making jewelry or amigurumi. I am interested in wearable electronics, but the most progress I’ve made on that front are some illuminated jellyfish. - weaving
I have a loom, and I am working my way up to using it to make cloth for garments I could wear. - sewing
I made myself some jackets, pants, and buttoned shirts worth wearing but mostly paused those efforts until I can attempt them with handwoven material. - fanbinding
Although this is easily the most ambitious and successful project I completed in 2024, I consider it preferable to share fanbinding in person and offline. In my most ambitious such project so far, I combined a K-118 binding, handmade book cloth, hand-sewn endbands, chapter illustrations (by me and with varying levels of success), fold-out pages, transparent overlays, ribbon bookmarks, and my first-ever typesetting efforts to attempt to express my appreciation for a series of particularly good fanfiction. Legal/ethical note: there will only ever be the two copies of this fanbinding by me.
