Bad Romance parody: early women’s suffrage movement

I have read just enough about the women’s suffrage movement to find this video fascinating.  The notion of force-feeding in particular is one that always shocks the breath out of me for a moment.

On the subject of current pop culture references to this movement, an alternative history comic called Suffragitsu.  I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, and I think I might do better to preface it with unironic historical surveys on Emmeline Pankhurst, Edith Garrud and the other militant suffragists.  I also hear that Meryl Streep will be playing Emmeline Pankhurst in “Suffragette”, which comes out later this year.
